This is particularly vexing since granting the DCOM rights appears to resolve the 10016 errors in exactly the same manner for both jobs. The DCOM issue turned out to be related to the MSI installer not having the relevant security permissions, this was fixed by adding NETWORK SERVICE into the DCOM. That's good news. If you have >1, then you'll need to stop all of them (Timer Service, could be CA Web App Pool, etc.), then once you've confirmed the account no longer appears in Unable to extract deployment information from the package. I have since just disabled the Product Version Job as this only needs to run when Sharepoint updates are applied.

  • See the link to Error code 0x80070005 for a list of reasons why a process may fail with this error.
  • What I've never been able to reconcile with these warnings is that we've granted DCOM rightsto launch and activate the Windows Installer Service and that definitely seems to make a difference
  • I probably get around 50 of these each night, and the 1035 events are all related to various SharePoint components.
  • I have tried to add local launch and activation rights to my account on the MSI component.
  • Any ideas on how to find out what the installer service is trying to install?
  • However, glad to see someone else trying the same thing and avoiding making the farm account a local admin.
  • x 20 EventID.Net Error 0x80070005 = "Access denied".

In order to succeed with the install I had to add the SYSTEM and the INTERACTIVE account in dcomcnfg.exe for the default permissions. Servers and Win2k workstations installed without a problem so it was obviously an XP issue, and it turned out to be related to Windows XP Service Pack 2. Also I unistalled a Windows Update and now I can't install that update using Windows Update.

I keep getting this when I try to install PalmDesktopWin62 from the website.

This isn't to say that it's wrong, but that the appeal to authority has at leastequalvalidity when inverted. Clean removal is always highly desirable. As for the windows installer cleanup tool I can't install it.
